Tucano and Urania Basket Milano. Teaming up for excellence

Tucano and Urania Basket Milano. Teaming up for excellence

An all-Milan a partnership meets up for a home game.

Tucano marks its first important collaboration in the world of sport, partnering with one of Milan’s iconic basketball teams: Urania Basket Milano. Since 1952, this historic, dynamic and innovative business has been looking to the future, inspired by sport’s fundamental values.

Tucano and Urania come together in a partnership generated by our common values and an appreciation of excellence, talent and Italian spirit. We also aim to share goals and projects focused on sport and its ability to generate social unity.

Constant attention to innovation, passion for and a belief in the Italian dream — along with the determination to carry out the most original projects — unite these two Milan-based businesses, which are both looking forward to working together on events and projects including some at the Palalido Allianz Cloud, Italy’s most evocative building, currently used only for matches.

Working side-by-side with Urania, Tucano’s commitment goes beyond the usual cooperation models between a company and a team, offering new visions and collaboration goals, focused on social issues and a modern reinterpretation of the team’s role. Urania has successfully applied a team-building and marketing method to its own management, generating relationships between companies and achievements in the non-profit sector. Areas where Tucano not only stands out as a company but which it constantly supports with activities and projects.

A genuine team effort, reinterpreted in a contemporary key, where unprecedented opportunities and collaborations give rise to a winning corporate vision.

Once again this year Tucano is the official supplier of the Venice Production Bridge 2020, having produced the official shoppers for the Venice International Film Festival, the most important Italian film festival but also one of the world’s most iconic cinema events, scheduled to be held on the Lido di Venezia from the 2nd through the 12th of September.

This year, the well-established partnership, now over 15 years, between The Cinema Biennale and Tucano, has produced custom eco-friendly shoppers made with recycled-plastic materials. Tucano‘s commitment to eco-sustainability, through the creation of bags and backpacks in materials made from plastic waste, highlights the need to give a second life to used materials, initiating a virtuous cycle that has the potential to continue indefinitely. An important topic at the center of continuous, ecological evolution, where originality and novelty come together with discarded materials, waste and innovation, interwoven with a common thread: responsibility.

Tucano’s journey in support of ecology is well-integrated with the prestigious aims of the 2020 Cinema Biennale, in the firm belief that culture is the most suitable context in which to embrace and promote such an important topic and one that is capable of generating real change. The jury of the 77th edition of The Venice International Film Festival of the Biennale di Venezia will be chaired by Cate Blanchett, an icon of international cinema, who will award the Golden Lion for best film, along with all the other awards, during the closing night ceremonies. The opening film, among the titles not in competition, is Lacci by Daniele Luchetti, based on the novel by Domenico Starnone. Four Italian directors will be in the competition: Emma Dante, Gianfranco Rosi, Susanna Nicchiarelli and Claudio Noce with interesting works dealing with a variety of themes.

Compatto bags and backpacks, extra space right when you need it

Compatto bags and backpacks, extra space right when you need it

The pleasure of traveling light with not much luggage is often in conflict with our desire to go shopping, especially when our travels take us to fascinating new countries where we have the time to indulge in shopping for fun. So what could be better than Compatto fold-away bags, which can offer us all the space we need?

Compatto bags and backpacks, which can fold up, transforming into small packets, are so functional that they’re almost invisible, both in your handbag, carryon, or suitcase. But you’ll discover just how handy they really are when you see how they help to overcome space problems. Once Compatto products are opened up they transform into surprisingly roomy bags, useful for holding even our most unpredictable purchases. Made of lightweight, durable nylon, the Compatto collection bags and backpacks are ideal not only on the go but also when traveling around the city. There are seven different Compatto collection styles, the backpack, the drawstring backpack, the shopper, the easy shopper, the duffle, the sling shoulder bag and the waist pack.

The refined colors and the carefully considered details, such as the tone on tone patterned nylon, straps and cords or the trolley strap, included on some styles, have transformed Compatto into a successful collection that has also followed an interesting development path in terms of design and eco-friendly sustainability.

First off there’s our collaboration with Atelier Mendini, which resulted in two collections: Compatto pop and Compatto Tucano Shake, both made in nylon but with different colors and graphic concepts. The first plays with graphic designs in contrasting colors on a monochrome foundation. The second, takes the Tucano logo and breaks it down into two different patterns, rich in color, rhythm and intensity.

For the Ecocompact backpack, the choice of eco-friendly, sustainable materials has resulted in a product made of 100% recycled plastic materials. Thanks to using unique and completely recycled fabrics, Tucano now offers an environmentally-friendly version of its iconic backpack from the Compatto collection. To support the environment, this travel and leisure backpack is manufactured from a high-tech fabric made from recycled PET plastic bottlesLightweight and foldable, it quickly transforms into a flat pocket. The Ecocompact backpack is available in olive green, black, red and navy blue.

Backpacks and bags in recycled plastic, Tucano’s new challenge for a sustainable future

Backpacks and bags in recycled plastic, Tucano’s new challenge for a sustainable future

People have been living with plastic for more than 100 years, it’s found in every corner of the globe and the oceans are the greatest repositories of plastic waste. In addition to being invaded by microplastics, found on the ocean floor from 200 to 600 meters deep, the Oceans are also host to the well-known, appalling plastic islands, the largest of which is the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. Located in the Pacific Ocean, it’s called the “sixth continent” due to its size, estimated as comparable to that of Canada.

Consumption and waste are the main causes of this disaster, which can certainly be improved with a less consumerist and more environmentally sustainable policy. Tucano has been following this new course for a few years now, modifying its own production cycles and using materials made from recycled plastic bottles that, over the last few years, have replaced about 50% of the collections usually made with traditional materials. Since the first eco-friendly products, made with R-pet, Tucano has improved the effectiveness of this sustainable process through research and new materials: eco-friendly nylon, eco-polyester, and netting, along with coated and elastic fabrics.

Some of these materials have been the inspiration for intriguing new collections in the 2020 catalog like the Bicolor line, including six backpack models in recycled PET polyester, and the AGS backpacks, equipped with the Anti-Gravity System, available soon in a new eco-friendly version also made with recycled materials. Tucano offers a wide range of eco-friendly products, including different styles of bags and backpacks—some of which are specially designed for travel and leisure like Ecocompact and Ecolive, and others tailored to meet work needs, like the Salvo, Forte, and Ampio backpacks.

But how can plastic be given a second life? Once they’ve been collected, the plastic bottles are ground up into small pieces, melted, and then transformed through a low-impact process. Of course the new materials are also traceable by way of a certification code, essential to ensuring the proper protocol during the recycling process. Tucano’s ever more conscious choices support the value of a circular economy essential for a future that can regenerate itself.

Tucano and Accademia Teatro alla Scala, an extraordinary Milan-based partnership

Tucano and Accademia Teatro alla Scala, an extraordinary Milan-based partnership

The protagonists in the partnership between Tucano and Accademia Teatro alla Scala are the Milanese brand’s backpacks and trolleys and the Academy’s young students. Through an experience of traveling to theaters around the world, sometimes physically and sometimes virtually, the aim is to give visibility to this partnership, born out of common values: an appreciation of excellence, talent and the unique Italian experience.

Over the course of these particularly challenging months, despite the need to radically restructure projects and programs due to inevitable interruptions, this project has still generated value and results for the Academy and Tucano, allowing the project to come to completion. On the one hand there is the Accademia Teatro alla Scala, an important training ground for performing arts professionals, on the other there is Tucano, a Milan-based brand producing backpacks, bags and accessories. At the center are a number of shared features: Milan, Teatro alla Scala, Italian culture and history, design.

Sometimes it happens that a partnership between a brand and an artistic institution grows out of unique synergies, able to go beyond established marketing logic, essential for effective communication. This is what happened between Accademia Teatro alla Scala and Tucano, with a collaboration that followed a cognitive and cooperative path, the central theme of which was, “the journey”. Tucano’s travel bags followed the Academy’s talented young artists through their learning experiences in Italy and abroad. Tucano dedicated three flagship products from their catalog, the Smilzo and Mister backpacks and the Volo trolley cabin luggage, equipped with an elasticized outer cover, created ad hoc and customized with their respective logos.

The Accademia Teatro alla Scala — an historic and prestigious artistic institution, founded in 1813 when the Teatro alla Scala established its school of dance — now includes four different departments, all linked to the performing arts and management: music, dance, stagecraft-workshop, and arts management.
The school welcomes approximately 1800 students every year, who are instructed by the professionals working at the Teatro alla Scala along with top industry experts.
Tucano, celebrating its 35th anniversary this year, is a leading Italian producer of bags and accessories — focused on the concept of protection — present in over fifty countries and internationally recognized.

This year Tucano again presents the Tucano Shake collection of bags, backpacks, and travel accessories, the result of a collaboration with Atelier Mendini, which reinvented a pop-style Tucano, broken down into two different patterns, full of color, rhythm and intensity.
The Tucano Shake Collection includes two lines of travel and leisure products, featuring refined prints: one bright and energetic and the other more subtle. Both are the inspired creations of Alessandro Mendini and the unique character of the Tucano brand.

The collection includes a foldable bag and a backpack, a Second Skin sleeve for laptops and MacBook Pro, three small multipurpose pouches and two pieces of rolling luggage, all available in two different graphic prints and made from two of the brand’s go-to materials: neoprene and nylon.
The rolling luggage, made of lightweight and durable polycarbonate, both checked and carry-on size, are roomy and feature four wheels. The line has been enhanced with some useful smart-working products: a mouse, a power bank, and a Bluetooth charging station.

The Tucano Shake capsule collection, also available on the international market, illustrates the value of a language rich in irony and color, through the genius of a great designer, Alessandro Mendini, and the expertise of a brand like Tucano, whose products are a synthesis of design, protection, color, and innovation.
