The collaboration between Tucano and the Venice International Film Festival of the Biennale di Venezia is once again consolidated by participating in a project that is a global expression of art and culture. There is a longstanding affinity between Tucano and the Venice International Film Festival, expressed through products designed exclusively for the festival and “Made in Milano”. This year the Lungomare Marconi will once more be filled with tote bags in green, orange, and blue, which have been made for the event’s Industry Office.
The opening film of the festival will be Downsizing by Alexander Payne, followed by a series of highly anticipated titles, including: Suburbicon, directed by George Clooney and written by the Coen brothers; The Shape of Water directed by Guillermo del Toro, and Koreeda Hirokazu’s The Third Murder. Paolo Virzì will be presenting his first American film The Leisure Seeker but he’s not the only Italian Director. Also on the schedule are: the musical Ammore e Malavita, by the Manetti Bros.; Andrea Pallaoro’s Hannah, with Charlotte Rampling in the starring role; and Sebastiano Riso, the director of Una Famiglia (A Family).

Rainbow, 1000 colours for the 2014 Fuorisalone.

Rainbow, 1000 colours for the 2014 Fuorisalone.

From 8th to 12th April, as every year, Milan returns to the stage of international design with Milan Design Week. Naturally, the Salone del Mobile returns with its crackling Fuorisalone fringe events.
After last year’s Lifexperience, we’re ready to paint the new 2014 Fuorisalone in a thousand colours with Tucano Rainbow. Our Showroom on Piazza Cadorna will, in fact, be painted with various design themes.
We will be showing our fresh new, colourful covers. But that’s not all: this is also the place to discover some of the secrets of our designers when creating Tucano’s collections.

As well as considering all the features that bags and cases for digital devices should have, our design office has the goal of making each product a truly innovative design solution that is also – why not? – surprising. For example, our Eyescase, which works together with a free app for the iPhone and Samsung’s Android devices, which dresses the smartphone not only on the outside, but “inside” too.
We will also be presenting Ancilia for the first time ever: an innovative cover that reduces electromagnetic waves by our bodies by up to 99%! And then there’s the wild creativity of our Delikatessen collection, which is increasing once again, which lets you customise your smartphone in unexpected ways.
Want to know more? We’re inviting you all to our inaugural cocktail on the evening of Tuesday, 8th of April to discover the myriad colours of these new products. We’ll be open all week to Friday 12th.

In all the world’s cities: This is how we see urban photographers.

In all the world’s cities: This is how we see urban photographers.

It’s really nothing new. The world is becoming a smaller place. Distances between places are shrinking and exploring new cities has become almost a routine occurrence.
It has also become a common objective to capture the poetry of the moment in an image, especially when we are exploring a completely new city. In fact, raise your hand if you do not feel yourself to be an “urban photographer”? And to do things properly, a reflex or mirrorless camera, plus the right lenses, is basically what you need.
Whether you’re in the narrow streets of Lisbon, among the street food sellers in Bangkok or exploring the ancientmonuments of Rome, it is always important to carry the right equipment, but equally vital not to be overburdened or appear like an inexperienced tourist. Yes, this is because we like to be able to merge in with the local people, creep into hidden places, and take part in the life of the city by immersing ourselves in its local activities, flavours and scents.

This is what we and our design team had in mind. We wanted to create bags precisely for this type of urban photographer, a character we recognised in ourselves. We wanted something specifically designed for exploring the city in the smartest way possible. So we also considered other devices.

Not only your camera but also your tablet and your smartphone.

A digital lifestyle does not only involve your camera, but also the other devices that you want to have freely available: your smartphone for posting impressions of your trip on social networks, and your tablet for consulting maps and guides and for discovering good suggestions from others like yourself.
For this reason, in addition to spaces for your camera and lenses, we have also provided special pockets for other devices in our Scatto and Contatto collections.

Life is not just about photos.

When the day draws to an end, and the hundreds of photos you have taken are safely stored on your memory card, the moment arrives to enjoy the evening. To avoid you having to decide whether to take your camera bag or another bag, our designers have come up with something which will prove useful in any situation.  In fact, our Scatto and Contatto bags incorporate a removable divider which transforms a camera bag into a convenient shoulder bag, suitable for any other sort of adventure (not necessarily related to photography).

Passing undetected or not.

As we have already said: the feeling that one stands out as being just a tourist is not particularly gratifying. It’s much better to merge into the life of the city straight away. It’s for this reason that we have made use of typically urban materials, such as the mixed fabrics for our Contatto bag, or the metro design of Scatto.

But this is not the end of it: we are already working on other special collections for the urban photographer, to better match your personal style. You will always be able to find them in the dedicated section at Tucano.com, and if you have any suggestions, you can share them with us on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.
We are very interested to hear the ideas of true urban photographers.

Milan is already getting ready for Expo 2015.

Milan is already getting ready for Expo 2015.

There’s already a sense of anticipation here in Milan for the world that’s coming to Universal Expo 2015, with work already under way to make the city even more beautiful.
Expo 2015 will be one of the most important international events. The history of the exposition is long, beginning in London, 1851, and moving from city to city each time. Next year, it will be held in Milan.
Every Expo is dedicated to a common theme that visitors will interact with through an innovative, experimental experience, across the various pavilions of the participating nations.
Naturally, an Expo taking place in Italy had to be based around the theme of the importance of food: “Feeding the planet, energy for life.” Each country will show the best of its cuisine, and more: we’re already salivating with the prospect!

Although the official location of Expo 2015, in the new exhibition area in Rho-Pero, the entire city is also getting a makeover for the occasion.
We can see it from our own premises in front of Castello Sforzesco: in fact, we’re in one of the “hottest” Expo areas. The construction of Expo Gate, the new Expo info point is just a few steps from our offices, and is already almost completed.

It consists of two identical, mirrored structures of metal and glass that rise on the natural view from the Duomo, through Via Dante, to the castle. Their design recalls the “caselli” (toll gates) that still stand at the many gates of the city(e.g. Porta Garibaldi, Porta Vittoria, Porta Volta, etc.) and thus form a kind of “gateway” to the coming Expo.
Within, the Expo Gate will be host, from time to time, to images, information panels and projections that will alternate and which will be there right from the start of the Expo, on the 1st of May, 2015.

Furthermore, we can’t wait for the pedestrianisation of Piazza Castello: the many vehicles that currently pass through will disappear, leaving an area for living, welcoming both Milanese and the many visitors who will be arriving from all over the world. And all this is happening right outside our own offices.
Wherever you are, if you’re thinking of a flying visit to Milan for the Expo, come and see us at 19, Piazza Castello: we’ll be glad to see you!
